The road not taken

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth

Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same

And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

I truly adore the thought behind "The Road Not Taken"-
The true feeling behind it is of a suppressed yearning.
Even when I was supposed to write lyrics for an art movie based on SAME poem/theme, 'suppressed yearning' felt most appropriate to go with such wanderers in desert of thoughts:)
Hmmm... good and a very plausible interpretation :) However, for me the road not taken symbolises hope :) ... Because it is the road I did not take which led me on to the one I took.

Thank you, so much for visiting :)

Would you mind explaining the meaning of 'hope' in means of interpretation of this poem?:)

And it's my pleasure:) Adding you to my blog roll. Hoping to be in contact with you through our 'writings':)

Btw these are lyrics what I was talking about: http://spotlesssoul.wordpress.com/2009/05/26/sedated-emotions-song-lyrics/
Good question :)

actually it is all a matter of experience, which differs from person to person. There might be someone who regrets not taking a certain road in life. On the other hand - for people like me, alhamdulillah - some people take a road without even realising the implications taking that particular path would have on their lives; and later on, when life in its bittersweet manner reveals to them that the road they once upon a time took was actually the one that helped them become who they are (in a favourable sense, of course) ... It is only then, when this realisation dawns, you feel that the road you walked despite all hardships was indeed worthy of being traversed :)

You write lyrics for songs? :)

.. :)

I must say, very well-explained:) Despite that I always believe almost same in matter of 'choices' we make in lives, I never thought of it in matter of this reference:)

Thanko for broadening my view:) And helping me realize another blessing of Almighty on my life:)

Err. I don't actually 'write' lyrics:) It was first time I ever wrote something like that. A senior (come friend)'s cousins were in that informal movie and they were unable to come up with appropriate lyrics. We were having a discussion on 'fighting in life' and next day, she called me up telling me to write lyrics:P So it was kind of accidental only.

JazakaAllahu Khair!

That's a compliment that I surely don't deserve. Thanks for visiting, though.
