Say, sea, Take me!

Ah, yesterday went to the sea-view after such a long time. And yesterday only, we had a presentation on the Old man and the Sea in the book club meeting. It was fun being a part of the discussion. "I have learnt how not to be unethusiastic" :)
They say sea is calm. Is it really? The roaring waves always seem to be trying to say something which they cannot express. What do they know of words! They come in and recede. They come in again and recede again... and yet they do not get tired. Perhaps, because they are not human! But why do they look sad? No, why do they SOUND sad? Is it that they are tired of monotony and we just cannot comprehend the message they want to pass on to us. A message that contains a long story of a never-ending journey. A message that encomapasses the entire struggle that keeps them alive...
Sea, what a creation of our Lord!
Somehow, whenever I think of Sea, the Urdu word zarf comes to my mind. And the verse as it goes:

Shor e dariya se keh raha hai samander ka sukoot
Jis mein jitna zarf hai, utna woh Khaamosh hai

At times, I wonder why aren't people as vocal as the river is described to be in this verse. Why do they have to be as silent as the Sea, as being yet again, described by the verse? But then on a barren land, it is silence that reigns supreme. Sea... Barren Land... is there a connection? A connection betwixt dryness and moistness, betwixt reason and emotion? And yes now Maggie Tulliver is all over my mind. The ruined Maggie Tulliver. That Maggie Tulliver whose salvation came with death! What's there left to say? Perhaps there is... or there isn't...

The year is 2005... the first day of the year... and the poet is Emily Dickinson

My river runs to thee:
Blue sea, wilt thou welcome me?

My river waits reply.
Oh sea, look graciously!

I ’ll fetch thee brooks
From spotted nooks,—

Say, sea,
Take me!
