They are us!

I remember when I was a child, once going through some very old family pictures I came across a picture in which two extremely beautiful pathaan children were sitting outside a traditional shop of some household items. I remember asking my mother with great fascination as to who these kids were. She told me that when she and my father went to Swat after getting married they took the picture there. And then she started telling me about Swat - the beauty of the place itself and its inhabitants. I also remember she promised me that we will visit Swat sometime soon. A promise that she never fulfilled though. :)

But the picture never ceased to fascinate me. Never. The innocence. The beauty. The carelessness. The tradition. And what not.

And then came a time when we collected all those pictures in a huge plastic bag and dumped them somewhere in the store-room on the first floor. And today, another picture flooded my mind with the memories of that old picture which once fascinated me endlessly...What more can I say...

Even I've heard all these stories from my uncles who have been to Swat k it's such a beautiful place. they even said that they are very "mehman nawaz" ( don't want to use the english word, that kinda ruins it." They ask you to stay in their houses for days and they present every morsel in their house apki khidmat mein. And just imagine how we, as a country, are treating our own kin!

There are no words to describe my shame, really. I'm a citizen of this country, and they are too. I'm comfortable in my home, and they have been so heartlessly uprooted.

We should ask them, though. Did you prefer the oh so horrible Talibans? Or you prefer the horror facing now?

I bet they hate us. And their generations will hate us too .. :'(

I've been to Swat some five times and I've been to a lot many places there. Everytime I went there, I was mesmerized by the natural beauty contained there and the extremely hospitable attitude of the people there.
No longer, though, it stays so. And I feel ashamed I couldn't help all those fellow countrymen there...
